The Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) was established by the U.S. Congress under the Vietnam Education Foundation Act (2000).

The Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) was established by the U.S. Congress under the Vietnam Education Foundation Act (2000). During the past 13 years of operation from 2003 to 2016, VEF has proudly been serving as a

bridge to “bring the United States and Vietnam closer together” through educational exchange. Specifically, the Fellowship Program supported 571 Fellows for Vietnamese students to pursue graduate study at 101 highlyregarded

universities in the United States, the Visiting Scholar Program and the U.S. Faculty Scholar Program supported 55 Vietnamese PhD holders to research at 42 U.S. major universities and 48 U.S. faculty scholars to teach on site or via video-conferencing at 28 Vietnamese universities.

Thanks to the strong network of VEF’s Fellows and Visiting Scholars, a non-profit organization called “Vietnam Education Foundation Science and Technology Development Association” – VEFSTA (www.vefsta.org) was founded. VEFSTA continues helping Vietnamese students in searching for opportunities to pursue graduate education in the United States. This is a significant milestone marking the spirit of paying-it-forward and building on VEF’s achievements.

The last cohort of VEF Fellows and Visiting Scholars of academic year 2016 has finally departed for the United States from June to August 2016 to study and do research, thus bringing its programs and activities to an end in Vietnam. Therefore, on November 20, 2015, the Board of Directors of VEF held a meeting and agreed to terminate the operations of the representative office of VEF in Hanoi, Vietnam from October 01, 2016. The closure of the VEF Hanoi Office is also approved by the Ministry of Education and Training under the Official Letter No 3693/BGDĐT-HTQT dated July 28, 2016.

VEF would like to send our sincerest thanks to you, individuals and organizations inside and outside Vietnam, especially the Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the U.S. Mission in Vietnam, the Vietnam Mission in the United States, Vietnamese and U.S. higher education and research institutions, and media agencies. All these stakeholders have provided us with invaluable support during the past 13 years. Our achievements are thanks to your important contributions.
