Minister Cao Duc Phat chaired the Forum in HCMC on 9th February 2015.
It is the first time the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a Forum to connect businesses run by overseas Vietnamese to local business to enhance cooperation relations between the State management bodies and overseas Vietnamese businesses and to connect businesses run by overseas Vietnamese to local business aiming at promoting agricultural goods market and strengthening the cooperation relations in the agricultural sector.
The forum attracted many agricultural businesses run by overseas Vietnamese from Denmark, Israel, Sweden, Bulgaria, France. Introducing the potentiality of Vietnam’s agriculture sector, Minister Cao Duc Phat said last year the agricultural sector obtained a growth rate of 3.31% and a total export turnover of US$30.86 billion, and Vietnam was the largest exporter of wooden furniture, coffee, peper, cashiew nuts, and vegetables. However, the sector also encountered difficulties, of which the most difficulty was the market access possibility of Vietnamese agricultural goods. This was a the reason why added value of Vietnamese agricultural goods was difficult to increase and farmers’ income remains low and unstable.
At the forum, overseas Vietnamese businesses also highlighted advantages and disadvantages of the agricultural goods exporters which relate to the compliance of technical procedures, food safety issues, brand name development for Vietnamese agricultural products. They also emphasised their desire of having more incentive policies from the State to facilitate their investment in the agricultural sector.

A Canadian overseas Vietnamese said “I think overseas Vietnamese should take initiate to make investment, we will solve problems step by step. We will bring together to solve any issue arise because in fact, consumers need goods and we have goods and we want to sell it. I hope that we, Vietnam will definitely bring and grow together”.
A Israelis overseas Vietnamese, representative of IVC investment and trading Co., Ltd judged that backward and simple technology in agricultural goods production and processing was the reason why Vietnamese agricultural goods were not highly recognized in the international markets.
Vice Chairman of the Association of Vietnamese people in Bulgaria said conditions for investment in agriculture in Bulgaria was very favorable thanks to fat soil, favorable support policies, low cost price, products produced in Bulgaria are free to enter EU market. The government of Bulgaria opened the doors to welcome Vietnamese businesses. So, this was a great opportunity for Vietnamese agricultural producers and distributors to approach this market.
Minister Cao Duc Phat also highlighted the role of overseas Vietnamese businesses, he said “they are the most effective channel to introduce Vietnam’s farm produce to the world. Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is encouraging the businesses to invest in the agricultural sector, mostly in the processing and trading industries. To help businesses to invest in the agricultural sector, the State needs to re-organize production structure along with long-term and sustainable policies to enhance the cooperation relations between producers and businesses”.
