The President of Namibia - His Excellency, Mr. Hifikepunye Pohamba, his spouse and delegation including Foreign Minister, Mr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, Mr. Pendukeni Iivula Ithana, Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, Mr. John Mutorwa, Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Mr.Bernard Esau, and Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Calle Schlettwein, paid a visit to Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS) on 20/11/2013. Vice President of VAAS, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Tuat, with Leaders of VAAS’s Departments and member institutions and all Staff of VAAS’s headquarter were presented to welcome the Namibian President and his delegation. 

In the meeting, Prof. Nguyen Van Tuat introduced Vietnamese agricultural development and presented major achievements in research and advanced technology transfer of VAAS to the distinguished guests. 

The Namibian President, Namibian Ministers and VAAS leaders also exchanged views and experiences in agricultural study. Particularly, the conversation came to a strong point of VAAS to contribute a plan for the future cooperation between Namibian agricultural research organizations and VAAS.

The President of Namibia highly appreciated Vietnamese agricultural achievements in general and the achievements of VAAS in particular. He also expressed his aspiration to collaborate with Vietnam in crop production, especially in research on rice and rice growing addressing climate change.

At the end of the meeting, his Excellency Mr. Hifikepunye Pohamba, his spouse and delegation visited VAAS’s experimental fields. Then, they noted down on the remembrance book of the Academy and took photograph with VAAS leaders and staff. The Namibian president demonstrated his gratefulness for warming welcome of VAAS and the expectation for future cooperation with the Academy.
